I can't imagine myself buying new, unless I hit the lottery.
Call me an old fuddy duddy, but the mid-80s Mercedes
380SL two seat convertible would have my interest.  Solid,
old-school Mercedes, not the make-it-cheaper-to-compete
-with-the-Japanese Mercedes. Tat way I can have quattro 
for NH winters, and a run-it-forever ragtop for the summer.

If you held a gun to my head to buy new, I'd look at a VW 
TDI diesel or maybe a hybrid. Right now I've got a consulting 
contract through January that has me commuting from NH to 
RI -- 280 miles a day.  Good highway manners, high mileage 
and lots of miles between fill-ups mean a lot.
