I had a similar situation in my 87 CGT with the same engine.
The engine would cut out badly very randomly.
Turns out I had a problem with the battery and battery fluid leaked down
inside the main wiring harness as it goes through the firewall, which is
right behind and below the battery. The acid from the battery chewed
through a bunch of wires.
I had finally given up and surrended it to a dealer. They diagnosed and
fixed it for a couple hundred dollars that I was more than happy to pay.
Differen body styles/chassis, but I believe your battery is in approximately
in the same spot on the firewall toward the passenger side of the car.
Wouldn't surprise me that the main wiring harness would be routed similarly.
Something to check anyway.
