Actually, there is, for the water pump. Don't ask me how I know :(
About 2 months before detonation, the water pump will make what I call
the "death warble". It sounds like a squirrel or chipmunk twittering
very loudly. With nuts in it's mouth. You'll know it when you hear it.
I don't know if the 3.0TT has the same stupid "water pump on the timing
belt" design as the 2.8/3.0/3.2 NA V6 does, but in the majority of
cases, it's the water pump seizing that takes the timing belt and the
top half of your engine.
