Gut instinct, if it's had an aftermakrket radio at some point in it's life, chances are someone used the illumination circut to ground the radio.
If it's all original, time for an excercise.

Sounds like its either wired wrong (lighting to 12, 12 to lighting or 
some such), or if it used to work, the 12v fuse might be blown.  Anyway, 
on you 80Q, it's most likely something behind the radio itself gone snafu.
