Agreed... despite the Z06, I do want to go racing in a SPEC Miata. I really
enjoy driving them, and it's affordable. I also REALLY enjoy driving Mini
Coopers (S) as well (especially when modified). Probably the most fun I've
had at Lime Rock is driving one with some more power, good suspension, and
good tires.
You can "use" much more of a low powered car daily. My first car was an '87
Bertone (Fiat) X1/9. Maybe 100-110 HP? But short wheelbase and slot car
handling made you carry speed through the corner. And with only 100+ HP,
you used ALL of the power, every day. And at 110 MPH, the aero would change
and the front end would get REALLY light. Mind you, it took a long time to
get to 110... and you wouldn't dare go through a corner at that speed or
above. 110 is JUST into 4th gear in the Z06, and it takes very little time
to get there. There's not the same excitement driving it fast on the street
as in a Miata or Cooper.
So there's a reason we love old 4000s and Coupe Quattros. =)
