touche, and comparing old carb cars to this (since carbs are inheritly more
polluting of raw HC's on drop throttle anyway) just doesn't fit in the
equation. If john can explain WHY a fan would cause cool running of a
properly thermally controlled (as in fully functional T-stat) engine, I'd
have more faith. I'd venture a guess that a majority of vehicles that have
been jungle rigged to have a full time electric fan (kinda risky in terms of
electrical wiring overheating IMHO) probably have other issues besides the
rigged fan that could've caused the emissions failures. A better way of
establishing the effect of the fan is to get a completely properly running
car, test it, and then rig the fan and test it (all other conditions the
same) again. Do that with a reasonably statistical sample (by my education
training, as a production line engineer, 20 units minimum). Soak up the
labor costs yourself (we had too) and then make the statement. IOW, I'm with
you, Huw.
