They already did,  on the FSI engines.

As for the avant, It has pretty well been covered. One other thing to
check is the inside of the oil cap. Look for buildup/sludge. I've seen
and heard of a lot of these with problems.

As for 4 vs 5 speed, Iprefer the 4-speed, I think they are a bit more
robust, as long as the fluid changes are done regularly.
