thanks all. good to hear about the m1 - i figure that enough cars require it it has to be good stuff. and i've peered under my VCG and the head appears to be in great shape at 150k. now i'll feel a little better about running to 0/40
my qualification of 'thin' is highly scientific - based on how fast it pours coming out of the bottle. =)
speaking of the car is due any day now..

Yup. I run Mobil-1 0W40 in my '01 S4 biturbo, and have done so since
about 5K miles new, now the car has close to 80K miles with absolutely
no sign of sludge or any other malady. The new Audi engines do require
thinner oils so they provide adequate lubrication while cold, and I
trust Audi's specs when it comes to various engine fluids. The factory
engineers know what they're doing.
