Usually a broken wire where it connects at the sensor. A quick bit of
Soldering may resolve.
If it really is bad... wrecker is your best bet, along with a meter to check
it before you pay!
It is just a NTC thermistor, Bentley provides the specs I believe.... so
worst case you can probably source one from an online electronic parts
supplier for 50c or so.

My intake air temp sensor has gone out of spec on the '89 200 10v tqa MC2
Apparently I need a 034 905 379 B which seems to be Main Stealer only and
$200+
Anyone got any better ideas?
