Gary,
I fought exactly this on a 5000 TQ, as what a bear it was. It turned
out to be the cooling fan. One of the relay's was intermittenlty
coming on, completely random. I thought exactly the same thing, why
does it go dead after a day sometimes, then a week sometimes. Even
after pulling all fuses, the car was dead after a week. The only
non-fuesd things were the alternator, the cooling fan, and one other
thing that I can't seem to recall right now. However, when I
disconnected the cooling fan (unscrew one of the terminals and tape it
off), it kept a charge, even when sitting for a month.

There does not appear to be any rhyme or reason to this problem; the car may set for a wek and be fine, or as the current situation, it was driven on Tuesday and this afternoon the battery was so low that with the battery hooked up my 12A charger could not generate enough current to actuate the door locks or the dome light. I'm at a loss for how to find the source of this problem but until I do I have a hard time counting on this for my primary transportation and that's what it's soon to be. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
