A while back Ontario opened up the registration of Year-of-Manufacture
plates for old vehicles (Ontario issued yearly plates until 1973)....giving
some of the local ALPCA folks a conniption since now the "old car" set would
be actively pursuing plates for their vehicles. I sent in a perfect set of
1962 Ontario plates for my DKW only to have them declined because the number
was "Already registered on the system". How can that be? Well, the Ontario
licence plate system also licenses trailers and snowmobiles - both of which
NEVER expire, thus finding a YOM available usable condition set of plates is
very difficult. I did locate a set "18 407" - which are also
registered....but apparently "H8 407" is not......all I have to do is find a
way to re-stamp the plate and change the "1" to an "H". The restamped plate
would be perfect for it's intended use, since the DKW has trouble driving at
60 mph for extended periods and the traffic on Highway 407 ETR (Express Toll
Route) cruises in the vicinity of 120-130 kph....dots in the rear view
mirror turn into flying SUV's waaaay too quickly!
Cheers!

1987 Audi 5kTQ - 7 digit (generic) plate - $74/year renewal
1980 Audi 5k - 6 digit (generic) plate - $74/year renewal
1962 and '64 Auto Union DKW Junior deLuxes - 6 digit Historic plate -
$18/year renewal....not sure why I'd want to pay $74/year...
