Get an A/C thermometer (FLAPS usually have them for a few bucks) and leave it in your A/C outlet. It'll tell you whether the air is reaching the temperature you set on your system. Even if the car doesn't "feel" cool, the A/C output at the vents should reach the requested temperature relatively quickly.

are great and wonderful, but it is not answering my question!! Geez,
so I run the air for a 3-4 mile drive. You know how HOT black leather
gets!?!?!?!?!? The car sits outside when I am at work, if it was
covered, then I would not run it. So, will someone post an
intelligent answer to my question?
