temperature gauge question and a/c

Danton,
Let the people reply, they may not hit the nail on the head, BUT they are
replying.
Now, I live in Hawaii, 95% of the people run their A/C all the time.
My answer is, if you are comfortable with it off, leave it off. If it's
humid and sticky, turn it on. It all depends on your comfort.
AC should blow cold within a minute, but that is at the vent opening. Leave
a window open an inch to exhaust the heat, until you fell cool. I leave the
switch to block outside air on all the time.
Statement
"It blows warm" Not normal.
"Is the main fan supposed to run after the car has shut off?"
Yes, if it has reached a hot enough temp to trip the switch, Normal
operating temp, after the thermostat has opened. Watch the temp gauge, it
will rise then fall, a little, and come back up. Thermostat is now open.
Hope this helps.
Al

In my opinion, you should feel cool air from the A/C within a minute
of begin engaged. The only delay in climate control operation I am
familiar with is in cold weather where the production of heat in the
cabin is delayed until the engine reaches a certain minimum operating
temp. I do not know if this applies to your car specifically, however
it is not relevant to the current question.
Which model do you have?
I had a 3 mile commute and ran the a/c. Why not? With a properly
operating a/c system, it will offer comfort even if it does not bring
the cabin temp to the set temperature.
