Yeah, when they fail they fail. But noise isn't an indicator of anything
in my experience. The fuel pump in my '90 V8Q has been loud for about 10
years now, put tens of thousands of miles on it with no problems. Same
goes for the 200TQA, it was loud (multiplied noise in the cabin of the
wagon), switched it out 2 years after it got loud because the noise was
really bugging the wife, it never failed. On the '84 5KS the pump was so
quiet you couldn't tell if it was running or not, yup, that's the one
pump that left me stranded, up and died out of the blue.
