You either get lucky or learn the hard way but a modified car is not a good
investment. Unless you buy it already modified for a song. I have had both
happen.

Bought a 79 924S in 2000. Very rare bird, came stock with limited slip, no
ac, sunroof, manual windows and 928 disc brakes all around. Meant to be the
basis for SCCA racers. Bought it with a header and serious upgrades on the
suspension for 1500. Tracked it for two years and sold it for 3500. I got
very lucky.

Bought an 80 quattro with the MC1 turbo in it. Bald tires, NA CIS, terrible
exhaust for 1800. Put bilsteins, H&R, custom exhaust, 034 EFI and have
about 6 into it. Not to mention the hours or time. Probably lucky if I could
get 4 grand for it now. But... for 6 grand it is one FAST toy!
