>Well first off, just wanted to say hi to all of you, as this is my first
submission on here. I've got an 87 5ktcs that i just went to take through
inspection today, and it failed for CO. The standard is .5, and i failed with
.56. The other numbers are 78 for HC (standard is 100) and 9.7 for CO2. I hav
been trying to get this car inspected since december, when it failed for having
a bad headlight. Since then everything has went wrong.
Dave - Welcome, please ignore the "nostalgia" thread as some of us are not
that old and it's a bit unnerving to see folks like Unka Bart and Huw
getting all teary about the past. Those guys are usually pretty tough, until
this week. . . ;-)
What kind of gas are you running? These are great cars (owned two myself),
but they need the expensive stuff. No, not the diesel (my baby's new beetle
TDI is costing, what $4 a gallon), but the super duper highest test you can
get at the pump stuff. Some may disagree with me, but fill 'er up with the
$3.60 (well, that's what I paid today), get the engine totally warm and then
do a high speed, full boost, get it jiggy run. IIRC, that fixed a similar
problem for another lister a year (oh, so long ago) back.
If you lived in Colorado, I'd say try to register your car on the western
slope, as there's no emissions testing there, unlike the Front Range. (go
ahead and shoot me, global warming contingent).
Good luck,
