Satch Carlson & Nostalgia

ISTR Satch got into somewhat of a brouhaha with a younger woman back long
ago ... it was unfortunate that caused his exit ... but then I don't
scrubside to AutoWeek ... or any other auto rag for that matter anymore. I
too miss his wit. Funny, I forgot that he was on the list for a short time
so long ago.

I had the pleasure of a lunch with our listmeister the other day ... we just
talked about work and cars ... don't think we had anything to say relating
to the deterioration of the lists. I see signs of reinvigoration of the
local folks. I finally realized I wasn't going to have time to get my urq
back on the road myself, so I paid to get the majority of the work done.
I'm almost willing to bet that in its current state that it might even start
at Devil's Playground! :-) I have already had people come up to talk to me
about the car ... and I still love to drive it.

In a way it is nice to have multiple lists so that folks can tune the
content to their interests. I do check the big list from time to time, not
really often though ... perhaps if the BW is down I'll make a point to check
it as I do the other lists.

Unfortunately Audi's fans have splintered themselves in so many ways ... and
for some reason people with the newer cars assume the audifans group is only
for the older cars. What is it that makes "motorgeek" such a success? As
someone else commented, I've never been the type of person who makes time to
search out the forum-based groups on a regular basis either. After saying
this, I do have to confess that I'm trying to keep more up to date with the
DoG forum.

On a more positive note, there are signs that things aren't quite dead yet.
The folks in Colorado are once again working hard to put together an event
for Audi fans ... albeit mostly urq fans.

One of the main reasons I don't do as much as I used to is the growing
family thing ... a lot of my non-work time is spent working on raising our
daughter. If I'm still around in 5 years or so I suspect I'll have a good
bit more time on my hands. I'm also starting to get jazzed about a newer
Audi ... perhaps a V8-equipped S4 Cabrio or an S8.

For those of you who miss Satch Carlson, he writes a monthly column
for "Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car" magazine, available (possibly) at
your local newsstand.
