Tyson, BTDT.
You can get the part from autohausaz.com for $9.55
(part # 853253115 ) . I ordered one, as well as many
other parts, and appear to be OEM and/or excellent
quality.

As long as you order $50 or more worth of parts, S&H
is free. Look around, you will always find something
else that needs replacing in your car to make it to
$50 woth of parts. You can purchase Bosch oil filters
for the same price as you will pay for generic at
places like Walmart.
That gasket is also the same as the one in the VW
Quantum Synchro, which is what I got and which happens
to be the same engine/tranny as that in the Audi 4KQ.
Like everyone said it can be kinda of a bitch to
remove the nuts, which you can also order from
autohausaz.com. I believe they also carry the studs
that are screwed into the exhaust manifold and could
break is rusted like in your case.
When I did this job, the studs did not break, thanks
in part because they were not rusted (I live in sunny
FL, no salt on roads to deal with). I did break a
couple of nuts, however.
You need patience. The job can be done I think without
the removal of the lower subframe to which the tranny
mounts attached to. I was doing a clutch job, so the
subframe did have to come out as well as the downpipe,
so I took advantage and replaced that gasket as well
as the heater core and its hoses. You will see what
I'm talking about when you get under.
Start by spraying penetration oil on those nut/studs
for some 3 days in a row.
Get a nice cold drink or hot, depending on the weather
:)
1 Disconnect battery cables
2 Place a jack as to remove front passenger-side tire
3 Disconnect downpipe from catalytic as to have room
for downpipe to travel a bit. I would also disconnect
the Oxygen sensor in the engine compartment while
attaching a string to it to pull it back up for
reconnect. The Oxygen sensor is connected to the
catalytic and once you disconnect the downpipe from
the catalytic, it will pull the oxygen sensor wire
down, possibly damaging where it connects up by the
idle stabilization valve.
4 Remove the starter (makes it easier to see upwards
to get to some of the nuts
5 Start loosening nuts, a couple of them, I believe
can be removed from the tire well.
I believe the nuts are 13MM. You will need a few
extensions with a flex joint in-between the
extensions. I use a combination of 3/8 13MM socket and
extensions with a 1/2 coupler to use a 1/2
rachet/breaker.
As I mentioned, I had to remove the subframe but
that's because I needed to whole downpipe to come out
as well as the subframe to clear the tranny in order
to remove the tranny.
I'm almost positive you won't need to remove the
subframe as you only need to clear enough space to
remove and replace the gasket.
I would definitely order new nuts along with the
gasket as well as the threaded studs just in case any
of them break off. If none of the studs break off,
don't bother replacing them as they could break inside
the threaded portion in the exhaust manifold and that
would be a real bitch to drill out/tap.
The CO little pipe running along side the downpipe
might have to be detached from the intake manifold;
don't quite remember but is easy to spot as between
the intake manifold and air filter.
Best of luck and let us know how it goes.
Regards,
Louis
