'02 A6 2.7T torque converter issue

Gurus,

 

I have a recently purchased '01 S4 tip that is also tossing torque
converter codes, stating lock-up stuck.  Patient has only 46kmi.  It
does have a stage one chip and AWE exhaust.  It has no noticeable
driving issues, other than terrible gas mileage.  I get a maximum 22mpg
at steady state 75mph highway.  Is this normal for a stage I 2.7t, or is
the converter slipping?
