2001 Allroad 2.7T - access to airbag control module?

VAG-COM says "65535: Internal Control Module Memory Error, 00-10
Intermittent", and it reappears right away again. So...Ross-tech says
maybe faulty wiring or else a faulty control module. $801 (CAD) from
the dealer for the module, but to search for a better price, I need to
find the EXACT part number to make a swap easier.
(Correct me if I'm wrong on any points here, please!)
So to get the part #, how easy is it to get at this thing?
I'd seen a 'how to' for a 2001 A6 sedan that involved taking apart the
center console, starting from the rear air vent and working forward,
right through to taking out the stereo.
Same for an Allroad?
Thanks for any and all suggestions/advice!
