[urq] authenticity of door rings

I have sets of both (satin black and diamond silver). I got the silver ones
many moons ago from Carlsen, so I know they're from VAG, and everything
about the black ones are the same, including packaging. They are all on 3M
"Scotchcal Film" and your description of the shape sounds right (big
rectangle around the rings with a small square protruding from the leading
edge of the first ring). I have no applicator, though. All of them have an
imprint on the front side that says:
   AUDI RINGE
   857 853 443 ### [01C or 97A depending on color]
   LOT: ##/##
The lot # appears to be week/year format. Mine are all '97, '98, and '99.
The 3M design on the back of the '99 is different, but it's otherwise
identical.

Now for MY question. I'll soon be replacing the driver's door and doing a
bunch of other paintwork, so I'm considering changing my black rings to
silver. I know I've seen at least a few tornado red cars with silver rings
(not sure if the factory did it that way, tho). The only reason I'm
considering this is that I'm thinking of refinishing the Ronals in white and
wondering if the silver will look better or worse than black. Anyone know
of any pictures of t-red urqs with silver rings? Bonus points for white
wheels.

As I recall, several years ago someone did make a bunch of copies -
which were probably indistinguishable from the originals.

Anyone look them up on the family album yet? Even if nla they might be
shown with some sort of part number.
