you are right as some systems are integrated into the brake assembly (TRW if

But some other systems (Continental) still use twin cables with a small
motor that pulls them as would do a traditional handbrake lever.

I have a 2006 Passat...with electric parking brakes.  No parking cables to
cut.  Looks like motors on the rear calipers to me, sounds like it too.
