Yup.  There's a decent inrush current- you'd be best off tapping the +
cable on the battery terminal, Kent.

Anyone want to make a "tracking down battery drain" wiki page? :)

I'll also second Grant's comments about Fluke meters.  Make sure you
only get what you need- they have a number of lines with subtle
differences and targeted applications.  Someone with a CIS car would
probably be very keen on duty cycle measurement.
