Fuel Pump Removal Tool- 1995 Audi 90 Q

Can anyone tell me please, is there some trick to removing the fuel pump
without the "special" tool mentioned in Bentley? I was able to force the
pump out of my parts car, but I believe I may have broken a retainer of
some sort. I don't wish to repeat this on the good car and need to know
if I absolutely must have the tool. Anyone BTDT?
 
Is the dealer the only place to get the tool?
