stuff that makes gas last longer

If you mean that gas pre-lets-give-the-midwest-another-subsidy has
more of a problem with water freezing in the tank and such, yup. It's
about the only benefit- that and its replacing the massive contaminant
MTBE.

The ethanol has been causing huge problems, especially in
marinas...apparently it caused tank liners to degrade, or crap in the
tank to loosen and clog up filters/pumps/etc. It also causes
accelerated aging in fuel lines, seals, etc.

... while I'm no big fan of Ethanol as an additive, I still remember the raw
gas smell emanating from the garage the *DAY* after first filling the urq's
tank with 25 gallons of MTBE-laced fuel. It was a complete blast having to
replace the rubber lines from the tank with no easy way to pull them without
some gas spurting about ... perhaps the first of many blessings for which I
can thank the California Air Resources Board ...
