There's a great usenet-era "Small engine repair" FAQ out there somewhere.
Also, as an experiment a few years back I took an ancient chainsaw my
folks had which wouldn't run, and practically soaked the combustion
chamber in Sea Foam. I then added several capfuls of Sea Foam to the
gas tank with maybe a cup or so of fresh gas (tiny tank.) After
getting it going and running it for a while at full blast, it started
spewing vast quantities of greasy carbon out the exhaust...stuff that
had accumulated over the years. Unfortunately the compression tester
wouldn't fit, but it would have been interesting to see the
before-and-after.
