All the transverse cars are Haldex.  There are many flavors.  The
system in the A3 3.2 proactively transferred torque based on throttle
position, and there was a module available aftermarket that gave 2-3
levels of selectable additional torque transfer to the rear wheels
under acceleration.  ALL of the Haldex systems transmit a minimum 5%
torque to the rear wheels, so they never completely disconnect.

The system in many '09 VWs is the 4th generation system.  I can't find
any definitive information on what is used in the US '09 A3, but the
S3 reportedly has used the 4th gen system since late '08, and there is
some implication that the euro A3 does as well.  Granted, Europe got
the new TSI engine before we did...

Audi marketing literature simply mentions a 'new' multi-plate LSC,
which means it is at least Gen 3...
