A4 Avant spewing oil

Having BTDT with my '89 200 ("Bad Puppy" because she'd pee oil to mark her 
territory), in my case it was bad hoses between the oil cooler and engine, and 
oiled squirted all over the place. And since on that 10 year old Audi (which may 
be the age of your A4), the hose connections were rust-welded to the cooler, I 
couldn't remove the hoses without trashing the cooler. So I replaced the cooler 
and hoses with a used cooler and hoses. That lasted maybe 6 months (when Bad 
Puppy emptied the sump again). I replaced that with a generic cooler and hoses, 
secured with hose clamps. That lasted until Bad Puppy went up in flames 
(electrical problem, we think).

I wrote a Wiki article on it, but it died when the server died. I'll try to 
resurrect it.
