Go for the C6 A6 3.2.  It'll be the top of that $15k range (I think-
haven't looked in a while) but the mileage is superb- as is the FSI
engine.

Damn sight better looking, too- both inside and out.

If he can't afford a C6, the 2.7tt is very tempting; there's the
option of a 6-speed, and with a chip they're very quick, but
reliability on them will be lower than the NA V6 and the V8.

Back when the A6 V8 came out, a dealer-friend said that customers
would drive the A6 4.2, loved it, got out and saw the sticker, needed
resuscitation...and then bought a A6 2.7tt.
