Why are the L5 Turbo engine sounds different ?

Interesting thing to note regarding sound in this vid is that at 1:22 and within the last 5 seconds you can hear the difference in the exhaust note at shifts.. this is obviously the later car where they had installed the auto-clutch (there's video shown of Rohrl actuating a shifter mounted on the wheel that actuated the clutch) versus the traditional use of the 3rd pedal.  I'd never seen video where that was so evident.  Personally I hate it, because there's no seagull sound.
