Sometimes, the oil vapor recovery system can suck oil directly into the
intake track. In fact, this system is supposed to separate oil vapor from
liquid droplets. Vapor are burned, droplets are returned to the oil pan.
Usually, to suck droplets into the intake, it takes very cold temps and a
partially clogged system.

my only question is how would it run out of oil without you knowing?
you would see smoke or smell the oil burning.
engine would run very rough at the least.
did you have a major leak or bad burning problem before hand.
not sure what to think about this. i've never heard or seen an audi do
this before.
