blown torque converter seal

Seen it before, though not too common. Generally good to go once
replaced. Also, I'd recommend doing the output shaft seals "while in
there". Cheap and fairly easy when the trans is already out of the
car. Removing the trans itself is no eay task in an A4, though.

The main question is, did he drive it till the car no longer moved, or
did he stop when he noticed a leak?

Needless to say, now the car is no longer is driveable. Has anyone seen this problem on these cars before? He is going to replace the seal, only to see if his tranny is shot. tia
