After TWO, brand new, LEMON A8s (one 1999, one 2000), we gave up on Audi
lying to us (my father's car) and made them buy back the replacement car
(also a lemon). We ordered a 2001 Lexus LS 430 Ultra Luxury. Flawless car,
GREAT road trip vehicle. Lacked the A8's dynamics, but dead-on reliable
until his heart attack. I took it on several business trips and dad even
had it out on track (Le Circuit Mt. Tremblant, with NEQ). That was quite a
sight!
He liked the Mercedes S-class the best, but couldn't justify over $100K
(with options) versus the $70K for the A8 or LS 430 (base $55K, Ultra Luxury
package added $15K). Mind you, this was in 2000/2001. And we had a ES300
for my mother. Lexus ALWAYS treated us right whenever we came in for sales
or service. I can tell you HORROR stories about Audi's service and their
regional service representation.
Lexus builds a fine car. They don't build a GERMAN car. German cars just
have that sporting "feel" no matter if it's a VW, Audi, BMW, MB, or
Porsche. Personally, I get into any sportier German car... and it's just
feels like home.
