5ktq tranny into a 4kq

You'll want to look for the non-turbo 5kq tranny and I think it will be a
bolt in, but I don't have BTDT to say for sure. I do have BTDT about the
different FDRs. I had a 5kCSQ into which a "knowledgeable" Audi wrench
installed a tranny from a non-turbo 5kq. As long as you don't lock the
center diff it works, but you've got to realize that the center diff will be
differentiating far more than it may have been designed to. I learned the
biggest issue is that the differential mechanism is not built using robust
bearings, so you would expect it to wear over time. I never got to find out
how long the setup might work as the engine swallowed a valve while it was
under the use of my BiLs family ... an injury from which the car never
recovered.
What this does is to create in effect a different torque split, which the
older quattros did not have. I found that with the turbo rear diff and
non-turbo tranny the car seemed to be quite tail happy when you punched it
on wet roads. While now both the V8Qs and the urq are capable of swinging
the tail out ... this was the first experience I had with a quattro stepping
out ...

I think I'm starting to figure this all out...can I put a 5ktq transmission
into a 4kq? I understand there is a different final drive in the 5kq vs
5ktq...will either work? Are there different mounting points, or are the
completely interchangable?
