It should be fairly snug.  A brandy new dipstick will have a new o-ring on
it, but you don't need to buy the whole dipstick to get a new o-ring.  The
specs listed for the o-ring is 5x1.9.  Which I believe is 5mm in diameter
and 1.9mm in thickness of the rubber itself.
