Just in looking @ ball joints for that truck, it looks like they're smashed into the control arms [like a Chibby van]. WIWAB, they were bolted in, then later were installed with rivets, to be ground out & replaced with nuts & bolts.  Smashed-in type presents some entertainment; maybe hubby wants to deal with the LARGE AMERICAN front spring [DANGER!!!] & take the control arms to friendly neighborhood place to have them pressed out & then in.  It would also be a reason to change the rubber bushings on the control arms; they are 21 years old.
