S4 suspension clunking

Hi again,
Having taken on board the advice here, I've been trying to get hold of a
kit of links for my car. I've now been told that kits for my car (1998
B5 S4 - I'm pretty sure they do have different suspension to the S4s
that came to the US in 2000) don't exist; the supplier said he could
pull all the parts together, minus the replacement nuts and bolts, but
this would be £420. He also said that he'd had a lot of sets come in
which weren't correctly labelled by the manufacturer.
I also asked about new shocks: apparently they're dealer-only.
Has anyone else had any difficulty sourcing suspension parts for this
era of S4? Mike, I think your car's about the same age as mine - was it
really a case of just buying a kit off ebay? I'm really wary that I'm
going to spend several hundred quid and end up with the wrong parts.

Well worth giving that area a spray before you start. Also, one of the bottom link bolts fouls on the body so you need to loosen the corner of the sub frame and lever it down a touch.
