Remove the serpentine belt, remove the plastic covers on the front of
the engine, the thermostat cover is behind the timing belt. It CAN be
removed and slipped out without disturbing the timing belt. Frankly,
I've not seen a V6 thermostat fail independently of other issues, but we
always replace it when we do the timing belt/water pump/oil seal job.
That almost always includes the serpentine belt and tensioner as well.
That tensioner is a known failure item.
When you're done, take special care to get the covers back on
correctly. It's a PITA, and I frequently struggle with them, but they
have to be right ..............
