What kind of a crazy person would drive an LT-1 powered Germancar?

It was used in many Land Rovers for years, as well. I think GM dropped it because it was small (cubic inches-wise, like 215 ci
or something like that) and it was the beginning of the cheap, big-inch cast iron V8's, so not much use for a small, light aluminum one
that couldn't be bored out very much.

It's the V8 of choice for those that want to put a V8 in their MGB. The MG factory did one in the early '70's for a few years, right at
the height of the first fuel crisis. Originals are highly sought-after, even in the US.

That may well be, as I was always curious why it never saw much use stateside.

I thought I remembered reading that Olds sold the design to Rover. Rover
improved it in afew key areas - which made it a v iable high perf motor.

Dennis you are 100% right.

In fact this engine (but with a re-designed block) is still being produced
by Cosworth in the UK.

Apart from Morgan, TVR also still uses this engine. It was also used in the
Marcos vehicles (not produced anymore) and they also used to fit those
engines to a few more kitcars and UK small production specialist sportscars.

Take care
Pantelis

I believe that Morgan also used a GM (Buick or Olds can't recall) small
aluminum block?V8 in their roadster. I encountered that motor in a friends
LeGrand Sports Racer?some years ago. Didn't Rover also use that motor?

That's right, sorry, I was trying to remember if it had an Italian make
associated to it. I completely spaced De Tomaso.

Well, it was the De Tomaso Pantera, and built in Italy, and sold through
Lincoln-Mercury dealers, so I think it deserves inclusion in this
discussion....

There's a little bit of grey area with the Pantera, IMHO... It was
technically a Ford, wasn't it?

I've been in a car with "too much" HP, and I was scared out of my mind. But,
I'd love to drive it again ;-) Yea, I don't think even "too much" is really
enough........

BTW, don't forget the 351C in the Italian Pantera,

Audi engines? Spyker with the Audi 4.2, Gumphert(sp?) with the Audi 4.2.
Then of course, there's this:

Here's one the other way around: Chrysler did a Daytona with a Jalpa V8 and
AWD in the late 80's.
