It is a red blinking triangle, point downwards, with the brake pad symbols
in the centre, the "bomb", pressure accumulator has only 23,000 km at 4
years. The brake pedal feels fine.

Which symbol come on? How does the brake pedal feel?

I believe the only thing that triggers the autocheck system is the
brake fluid level switch and pad wear...maybe the pressure switch on
the booster too. The hydraulic fluid switch is definitely only
connected to the "BRAKE" idiot light.

As for the stiff power steering- it could be anything.
Loose/oily/worn belt, dying pump, clogged inline filters (in the banjo
bolts and in the reservoir are screens.)

I suppose one possible scenario is that the pump isn't supplying
enough pressure to keep the bomb charged (or your bomb is almost dead.
 See http://www.audifans.com/kb/Hydraulic_pressure_accumulator_test )
and it also shows up as insufficient power steering assist.

We can make a more educated guess with more specific information.
