It has been a long time since I posted to the list. I am in Phoenix, and my 1990 V8 is having trouble starting. Not sure if it is the ignition switch that is worn out, or the starter that is going bad. Either way, i need it fixed ASAP. I hope someone knows a reasonably priced shop that is reliable. Thank you for your help. Michael Riebs.

*Whose* value of the car? Yours? The drunk's? Kelly Blue Book?
Is that 25% and you get to keep the car?
I'd start with KBB or NADA value of an average 10V car at retail.
Then show them the receipts for all the work done to make your
car above average. Show the "comps", sale prices off of eBay
or ads on Craigslist or the Audifans Marketplace. Keep rejecting
their offers until you are happy. It might not hurt to hint
at "courts" and "lawyers'. If they are truly at 25% of KBB, a
good lawyer and a sympathetic judge should ream them a new one.

I think mine is also Hazet, but you can try OTC. I bet Schley makes one.
It's used on all of the newer VAG cars that I've had to remove a head on
(not many), so a worthwhile purchase.

I'm all for it!! I'd love to see today's technology put into action,
perhaps with simple limitations such as engine size or whatnot, and
allow technology to determine from there. Woa, group B cars would
suddenly look slow!! I'd love to see who would step up and volunteer
to drive them.

Hey,
We're looking for 'exhaust' valves and valve guides for a 10v head with
mechanical lifters. The car is a 1985 200tq, normally powered by a KG
motor (it's in bits). The valves are reportedly 'NLA".

This is like American rally (Canadian incl.) - anything goes in Open class
... 'cept tons of Soob's.
BTW, many similarities btwn endurance and rally. The WRC top cars are close
to prototypes. The 4 cyl. econoboxes just happen to be the fastest cars to
build on, not the only ones allowed to run.
AWD not allowed in endurance races, too.

I was going to mention that in a way. Probably one of the best tools in
terms of getting the "right amount" for your car would be if you had an
agreed value policy of your own on it.
Under such circumstances I would assume your ins. co. would go after the
other co. for the proper amount.
Did you have collision insurance on it?

Our engine blocks have numbers on them?
If so, under which part of the rust?

Do you have collision on your car? If so, your insurance will (care)
help you. They pay and then go after the other insurance company.
Otherwise they don't' do anything. BTDT with my 91 Audi TQ 20V and my 87
VW Scirocco 16V as well.

I am requesting help with establishing rarity and value of my Pearl
White 1990 Audi 200 Turbo Quattro sedan that was destroyed in a
collision with a drunk driver. The insurance company has offered 25% of
the value of the car. No court appearance, just review documents of the
history and photos of this car and submit a letter to my attorney. I am
a collector with more than 45 years experience with rare high
performance automobiles.

After nearly 15 years of doing my own repairs, including Timing belts on
5
or 6 Audis, I made a stupid, rookie mistake. I replaced the valve seals
on my
95 A6q 5-speed and left the socket wrench I used to manually turn the
engine
attached to the crank bolt.
Well, when you hit the key with the socket wrench still attached, bad
things
happen. Like, the crank bolt backs out and the timing belt skips a few
(10
or so) teeth. That, and your heart sinks to the bottom of your shoes,
followed by a string of invectives aimed squarely at oneself.
I'm sure that worse things have happened. And, on the 5 cylinder
engines,
it's no big deal. I've even seen this method used to break the crank
bolt
free on an 80q.
As with most disasters, time and money are the cure. Still, I'd like
to
escape with as little time and even less money thrown needlessly at the
car.
So, I got a new t-belt from Napa (a Contitech belt, nonetheless) and a
compression tester from O'Reilly Auto Parts (part of their loaner tool
program).
When I get back home tonight, I'll put the timing belt on and do a
compression test on all 6 cylinders. If that reads ok, it's most likely
no harm, no
foul.
Otherwise, It's probably time to loosen up the headbolts and dig into
the
engine.
Any thoughts? Similar unsavory experiences? Spare AFC heads (cheap)
for
sale?
Also, does anybody know what tool I need to loosen the head bolts?
They
appear to have a 6-point torx-like pattern on the top of the bolt (male
end) so
that the correct socket would be a female torx-like apparatus.
Thanks,
Tom
