... from your description it sounds like the starter is not engaging when
you turn the ignition switch to the start position, correct?
If you don't hear any clicking of the starter solenoid you may have a
problem with the lock out mechanism. I don't know what different lockout
possibilities there are, but it could be the car's alarm or the transmission
shift lock out. Hopefully someone else with an automatic V8Q has BTDT they
can pass along. It all comes in to a lockout relay ... if you can find it
you can jumper the terminals which go from the ignition switch to the
starter solenoid.
Of course it may still be the ignition switch or the starter. You can do a
quick check by measuring the voltage at the starter terminal while someone
turns the ignition switch to the start position. I'm pretty sure you can
reach the starter from under the hood ... may be easier after removing the
heat shield (3 fasteners) ...

It has been a long time since I posted to the list. I am in Phoenix, and my
1990 V8 is having trouble starting. Not sure if it is the ignition switch
that is worn out, or the starter that is going bad. Either way, i need it
fixed ASAP. I hope someone knows a reasonably priced shop that is reliable.
Thank you for your help. Michael Riebs.
