Louis-Alain,
If you're looking for a predecessor to the Q7...why not a DKW Munga-8?  Sold 
in North America as the "Cross-Country" and in South America as the 
"Candango", the Munga was, in essence, the first four-ringed 4-wheel drive, 
and the Munga 8 had seating for 8 (although no cupholders.....sorta like all 
of my Audis).  There is a fairly large club in Germany (Munga 
Interessengemeinschaft) devoted to the Munga:
