type 44 speaker impedance? - Back to original thread

Before I replace the stock component speakers,  I am wondering it I can
power them with the Alpine unit. I imaging I could if I bought a separate
set of crossovers - but that is too spendy (or at least its more than
putting in a pair of $40.00 coax). Only problem is that without the x-over,
I don't have the right impedance for the speakers. If I wire them in //
(with bass blocker for the tweeter), I get 2 ohms. Series gets 8 ohms. The
Alpine is 18W into 4 ohms.....

Maybe this is all too much thinking to save just a few bucks, but my wife
gets very tweaked when I start  spending $* "*on that old piece of junk"
;-).

Maybe some used crossovers from fleabay?
