<<These cars are worth whatever someone will pay. Does it have any
actual value on the open market, or to insurance companies? Not much
above 2 grand, sadly.
Would someone pay 3000 for that car? Probably.>>
I agree with Brendan. It's worth what someone will pay. If this car is
nice and shows TLC, it's probably worth $3000. Decent and together but
average for a 19yo, maybe $2000. This car has a few red flags though.
The modifications are fine, per se, but denote a car set up to be driven
hard. The fact that the clutch was replaced at 104 km further suggests
it's been driven really hard. We just sold Wifey's '90 CQ (the 2nd CQ)
with 190kmi. (over 300,000km) and it had the original clutch that worked
fine. The price of the mods do not raise the value of the car, but may
increase the desirability.
Of the 8 Audi's I've owned, the only one that burned oil was our first
'89 CQ, which we bought with 70kmi pampered one owner miles. It burned
oil from the start of our ownership. I'd show up unexpectedly and have
the owner start it from cold. Watch the tail pipe for oil smoke. Also,
be advised this is not an economy car, nor is it very fast or sporty
(suspension mods might help a little). It will get 24mpg highway at the
very best on premium fuel, and around 18 in town. The hatch will
squeek. The window lifts will break and cost a fortune to replace.
Calipers will freeze up, but that's not too expensive. Many other CQ
only parts are hard to get and expensive. Buy a WRX, rod the wee out of
it, then throw it away and buy another one.
No, I am not bitter!
Good luck,
JC
