Don't forget the grounding cables as well.  I had a starter issue on the '88
5kCSQA which turned out to be the ground wire for the battery where it
attached to the frame of the car.  The bolt was not fully tightened and
worked fine for me but would fail when the wife was driving ... 

Another place to look is the ground braid from the engine block to the body
of the car ...

After having what I thought was a rebuilt starter failure and my loaner also
fail, it was time to go back to basics.
Surely it has been mentioned here before..... clean the mounting surfaces
thoroughly!!!

It is amazing how sufficient amps can't pass thru corrosion or even the
mounting bolts to get the jopb done.
