Thanks for all the supportive comments and suggestions.  

The fuel gauge seems to have tired of hanging itself out to dry and is 
back to floating in whatever level of fuel is in the tank and reporting 
to the instrument cluster.

Tires seemed to rotate well at 80-odd mph in Nebraska, so I think all's 
well there.  Only getting 23 mpg, though, probably because of the half 
ton of stuff I'm hauling in the back.
