Thanks to everyone who offered up suggestions for my Coupe Quattro! I
should have posted up weeks ago.
This afternoon I pulled the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator to
the intake manifold. I had my assistant start to crank the car over, and as
soon as the key turned on a nice big fat stream of fuel shot out of the
vacuum line. Certainly the bad fuel pressure regulator was filling the
manifold with fuel. I think this will solve my problem, and allow me to
fine tune the car now. Hopefully I can source a FPR locally on Monday and
have the car on the road early next week.
I have five good Hitachi injectors in there at the moment, or at least they
appear to be good, spraying a nice pulsed pattern. I have a few spares too.
I looked at the 034 setup on my buddy's parts Coupe today, but it looks a
bit scary to me as this particular car had a nasty fire in that area. Hard
to say if the injectors were the cause or not. Who knows, maybe it was a
bad FPR and a failed vacuum line spraying fuel all over the header. The
fire melted the battery and the battery box, most all of the injector wiring
and part of the spark plug wires. Ugly. We decided not to try the used FPR
in the parts car due to the exposure to the fire. Not worth the risk. One
burnt CQ is enough.
Thanks again to everyone who offered input on my problem.
Cheers,
Brett Fairbanks
