To each their own, but...
I've been commuting on weekends between Clifton Park NY and
Concord NH. The commute entails back roads. VT Route 9 from
Bennington to Brattleboro is bliss. Lot of twists and turns,
ups and downs, few towns, spoiled only by the tourists. :)
Although I'd prefer a manual, my A4 has a Tiptronic. For
local errands or pottering in traffic, it works fine. And
when I'm on VT-9, I can slide the shifter to the right and
click up and down as needed [1], to stay in gear and keep
revs up going up hill, or to keep a lower gear on a long
down hill. No, the shifts are not crisp, and you can't slip
a clutch to ease out of the snow, but 99.9% of the time it
works for me.
[1] No, I don't use the wheel mounted buttons. I never
think of them.
