Sedan or avant? If the latter just make sure it has the third button if you want full functionality. I'm not quite sure what exact part numbers will work and which won't, but the keys look basically the same from 96-01, possibly 02 or 03 if I recall.

My GF just bought a 2001 A4 that came with only one key.  That key has
been epoxied together so that the blade cannot be closed. Am looking
for replacement keys and need to know which year's keys will work for
a 2001 model.
